According to a new detailed WWF report on the discoveries made in 2011, in the Greater Mekong area, 126 new species of animals were discovered: from a bird-like frog to bats of a horrendous species.
New species have already begun to fight for survival, thereby jeopardizing the conservation of the group and the biodiversity of the region. According to Nick Cox, the WWF program manager for the Greater Mekong species, the availability of new discoveries is always good news, but the bad news is that while environmental sustainability in the world is more and more difficult to maintain.
This unexplored region, covering an area of 600,000 square meters. Meters, is located along the Mekong River in several countries: China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. Here you can meet the rarest animals – striped rabbits, bright pink poisonous centipedes and rats, thought to have died out about 11 million years ago.
Gracixalus quangi – sweetly singing frog, unlike most male frogs, attracting females by repeated croaking, in the repertoire of tree frogs Quang – each time a new melody. Mixing whistles clicks and twitter in a unique order, they never produce a repeating melody. This species of frogs was found in the mountain forests of the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve
Clarias gracilentus – “walking” catfish New species, living in the delta of the Mekong, in the fresh waters off the island of Phu Quoc (Kyenyang province), of course, does not walk: Clarias gracilentus, thanks to its pectoral fins, can stay upright, moving forward with using snake movements.
Trimeresurus rubeus – ruby-eyed green snake This new species of snake, found in a forest near the city of Ho Chi Minh, lives only in the Vietnamese National Park of Cat Tyne.
Leptobrachium leucops – frog “yin-yang” A new species frog was found in southern Vietnam, in the territory of the Bidup Nui Bai National Park on the Langbian Plateau. Her bright black and white eyes have no analogs in nature. In length, the frog reaches a size of 3.8-4.5 centimeters. Frogs Leptobrachium leucops are found only in moist evergreen and foggy forests at an altitude of 1.558-1.900 meters above sea level.
Borarus naevus – a fantastic multi-colored fish A new species of fish was discovered in southern Thailand, 83 km north of the province of Suratthani, at several points in the lower reaches of the Tapi River. Reaching a length of only 15-20 millimeters, the fish was named so because of a large spot on the body (“naevus” from Latin – “spot”). (Peter Maguire)

Python Kyaiktiyo – Pygmy Python This 1.5-meter python was found in a small dried bed in the territory of the Sanctuary Reserve (Myanmar). The Dawna-Tenasserim Landscape Reserve, located on the border of Myanmar and Thailand, is a mountain habitat for Pygmy Python. The high proportion of pythons in international trade in domestic animals, as well as the beauty and rarity of this new species of snake, are likely to cause Python Kyaiktiyo to be in immediate danger.
