Also known as an “action plan”

Also known as an “action plan”, “annual plan” or “management plan”; an operational plan is an organisational planning document derived from the strategic plan. The operational plan provides concrete, detailed evidence of how the strategic plan will be achieved.
The operational plan outlines what actions teams or individuals will take to achieve its objectives and will outline any major projects identified within a designated time period. Used as a tool to forecast actions for the coming year, the operational plan may also address actions for a three to five year period.
An operational plan should contain details of:
• The organisational structure
• Short or medium-term business strategies
• Performance targets
• Responsible persons for the actions mentioned in the plan
• Available resources – this would include human, as well as, financial resources
• Timeline for projects, goals and evaluations
